Dr. Godwin Wong

 Course: Entrepreneurship


With Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Master’s degree from U.C.L.A., and Master’s and Doctorate from Harvard University, Professor Wong has been on the faculty of the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley for twenty years. He has focused his interest in graduate, undergraduate and executive programs in the areas of Entrepreneurship, Venture Capital, Banking Management, Information Technology (IT/MIS), eBusiness, eCommerce, Digital Media, International Business Negotiation, Strategic Planning, and MultiCultural Management.

He has also lectured to business executives in 20 countries around the world, and has been to Europe 100 times, Asia 80 times. He has been management consultant, and specialist/strategist to various organizations including banks, corporations, government agencies, consulting firms and private business enterprises. He has assisted multinational companies in the negotiation of businesses, in technology transfer, mergers and acquisitions. He has been appointed Chief Expert Advisor for the Beijing HaiDian City Government of China and Expert Advisor for Wuxi 530 program.

He has won various teaching recognition awards, and supervised over 50 master’s theses. With eight books to his partial credits, some published articles are:” Strategic Planning in Pharmacy Operations,” and “Business Planning in Pharmacy Programs.”(McGrawHill, 2012); “Merger of Investment Banking and Venture Capital” (2002),”Venture Capital: Catalyst for NETrepreneurs” (2001), and “Online Banking: Impact of Customers and Technologies on Competition”: in E-Business Management (Springer-Verlag, 2001), “Information Technology (IT) Outsourcing: an Alternative to Reengineer Your IT”, (1997).”GUANXI: Tonic in the Buyer-Seller Relationship Quality and Customer Loyalty in China”, (2000); “Implementation of a Tactical Strategy in China by a German Company” in Change Management (Springer-Verlag, 1998)

Having been on the board of directors of a California bank of US$17 Billion, he has served on the boards of several California banks and NASDAQ companies. He was also appointed by U.S. Government agencies to the board of financial institutions, in the turnaround and the purchase and sale of financial institutions. He has also served on the boards of directors of other corporations, especially the high tech ventures in Silicon Valley, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Shenzhen. Representing various investment groups, he has run his own San Francisco management companies in real estate, consulting, and investment management with over 35 employees.

He has appeared in Jim Lehrer’s Newshour, and has been quoted/cited/interviewed in Fortune, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury, and other Asian news media. Born in China and grew up in Hong Kong, he speaks, reads and writes fluent Chinese in three dialects. When not circling around the world, he lives in San Francisco and plays piano and tennis.
